EMPYREAN

MEDIA REVIEWS

The Meze Empyrean II is almost exactly what I expected it to be, and somehow it still had me floored with its exceptional performance. Its soundstage is as immaculate as ever, providing even more immersive qualities on top of its newly found precision.

The Meze Audio Empyrean II takes a huge chunk of what made the original Empyrean headphones so good such as looks and comfort and integrates a new sound signature that should appeal to a much wider audience than before.

The sound quality was superb in almost every respect and better than expected in some. The emotional involvement was incredible, the refinement a delight and the soundstage placement remarkable.

There’s a feeling that you’re hearing this music exactly as its creators intended. Every frequency band is perfectly reproduced, at just the right level.

For their second-generation model, Meze Audio’s specialists have further refined the exceptional Isodynamic Hybrid Array driver design from Rinaro Isodynamics, delivering a step-change performance.

With the Empyrean 2, Meze Audio is walking into a new direction. In this new tuning, neutrality, clarity, speed and spaciousness are keywords

The Empyreans hit the headphone sweet spot and beg the question, “How much better can headphones get?”

Regardless of music genre, we still find the Empyrean II a pleasure to listen to. They have a more overt sonic signature than the likes of The Composer, sounding richer and full-bodied and for the most part easier going once carefully partnered.

It’s a pretty hyped release, and once you experience Meze’s latest highest offering, you’ll immediately understand where it’s all coming from.

The headphones make a fantastic impression on basically everything, except for the soprano. Empyrean 2 are clearly tuned for older users and audiophiles, hence they are focused on strong exposure of the high bands.

The Empyrean II are a more refined version of its 2018-released predecessors. Offering almost hypnotic imaging and midrange resolution.

hat said, even the Utopia can’t match the Meze’s build quality and comfort. Now that the Empyrean II boasts improved detail retrieval and a more neutral tonal balance, it could be a runaway hit.

Pander to them just a little and the Meze Audio Empyrean II prove smarter than your average audiophile-orientated passive hard-wired over-ear headphones…

Empyrean found its way into a lot of headphone collections with its combination of craftsmanship, comfort, and a unique sound. Empyrean II improves on the original, with a more accurate, versatile sound, but maintains the core Empyrean identity making Empyrean II a true flagship for those who are happy to trade a little bit of accuracy for a little more fun.

It has a sound character that skillfully balances between bold reference and sheer enjoyment making it an ideal choice for both the discerning audiophiles and the casual listeners alike, especially if we throw the two different ear-pads into the equation.

The Empyrean II shows us what sonic improvements and technological advancements can to to an already stellar-sounding headphone, but such is the case with product generations. In this case the difference is stark - the Empyrean II leans much towards the tuning of the Flagship Elite.

Beautiful in both form and texture, Empyrean II is an experience for the senses. A natural step forward from Meze's first ever planar magnetic headphone, Empyrean II retains all the beloved elements of its iconic predecessor, with an added touch of sonic and sculptural elegance.

The first time I saw them I was mesmerized by how beautiful they were. Listening to several models I found they weren’t just a pretty face. Meze makes serious headphones.

The Empyrean II is like a hot and heavy summer romance that fills you with longing and heartbreak. If that’s going too far, then let me say, at the very least, that no other sound signature can combine this much skill with this much charisma.

With its experience, Meze has achieved formal perfection. The headset is designed around one-piece shells made entirely of machined aluminum, a double carbon fiber headband, and a leather headrest.
