About

History

DEVELOPMENT CENTERED APPROACH. It all started when Antonio Meze was looking for a pair of headphones that he could connect to in the same way that he felt connected to his Fender Stratocaster guitar. An object to pour his passion for music in. An object that is full of personality and life and that has its own story. Meze Audio was founded in 2009 in Baia Mare, Romania. We started small, acquiring knowledge by experimenting with parts already on the market, searching and researching for the right materials and engineering solution all in quest for the best sound. Our breakthrough year was 2015, when, after many years of development, the 99 Classics was launched. It keeps receiving awards and nominations that are beyond anyone’s expectations and are placing the 99 at the top of its category. Today all our headphones and earphones, are developed in-house from the ground up raising the standards of sound development with each new project.

VALUES

WE DON’T FOLLOW TRENDS. Meze Audio has stood by its values since the start of our journey. We develop our own aesthetic language thus creating timeless design. But style must always be a by-product of high functionality and ergonomics. We engineer high quality and intelligent frames with long product life in mind.

STANDARDS

OBSESSING WITH QUALITY IN SOUND AND BUILD, We build high-end headphones, so we obsess about sound quality. Every aspect counts. The engineering, choice of materials, the precision of craftsmanship, the reliability are all equally important. We also make parts easily replaceable. All of these to ensure that a feeling of trust will accompany your every interaction with a Meze.

SOUND

VIVID AND IMMERSIVE. The sound signature is tuned for long listening sessions same as the ergonomics: clarity without harshness, freshness without fatigue. We know a headphone is ready when it’s effect is to make you totally forget about the outside world and makes you dive into your own feelings.

DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

AS LONG AS IT TAKES TO GET THE RIGHT RESULT. Our headphones undergo a meticulous development process whereby every possible aspect is refined. We engineer with durability in mind. We create many iterations of sound tuning and frame until we reach the perfect balance; we prefer to go through as many trials as humanly possible. We don’t push products to the market due to deadline, but only when the product is fully matured. The most important aspects of Meze Audio is that our priority is the design and development of a good product with great sound. All business decisions are secondary to the quality of our products. We will never release a product because of marketing or management deadlines. But only when the product is perfect by our standards.

Technology

USING WOOD. The choice of wood is an inherently difficult one. Obtaining the desired qualities for wooden parts is a long and hard path. The rich colors of walnut require the use of air drying, the longer and more expensive process. The process of shaping just a single pair of earcups takes up to 8 hours. The whole process of sanding, lacquering, and finishing lasts 45 days. We could cut corners, but we don’t sell ice cream. We fight time: this is the pride of the creator. The craftsmanship of our designs is paramount. The wooden components are carefully inspected and no flaws are permitted to reach the final assembly. Aesthetics are as important for us as they are for you. We want you to wear a pair of Meze Headphones and know that you are enjoying a timeless art piece. It is worth mentioning that all the wood that we use in our headphones is strictly harvested from sources with certificate of origin. That is, mature trees that have reached the end of their life cycle. This way, we are helping the environment and we're giving the old trees a chance to shine one more time in the shape of Meze Headphones.

PEOPLE

PASSIONATE AND DIVERSE. Antonio Meze is a product designer with a long worldwide experience. We - the Meze team - are engineers, musicians and artists. Headphones are the intersection, the common ground where everybody's interests meet. We are fortunate as our work really is our passion and we develop each model as if making it for ourselves.
